The company, Chothavee Plc, won an auction in June, which granted it rights to install e-ticket reading systems in 2,600 BMTA buses. Passengers travel on a Bangkok Mass Transit Authority bus equipped with a card reader, which can scan state-sponsored welfare cards for low-income earners. The tickets were also used in case the smartphones -- which use their back cameras to scan the welfare cards -- malfunctioned.
